Hair Salon Floor Plan Guide — Chair Spacing to Shampoo Station Layout

The most critical regulation for hair salon floor plans in Korea is the Public Health Management Act. Failing to meet chair spacing and shampoo station ratios can result in your business registration being rejected.

1. Treatment Chair Spacing — Minimum 1,200mm

Under the Public Health Management Act Enforcement Rules, the gap between styling chairs must be at least 1,200mm — measured between chair outer edges, not center-to-center.

• Standard chair width 600mm → center-to-center distance minimum 1,800mm
• When mirrors and shelves are on the wall, maintain minimum 900mm front aisle
• For BF (Barrier-Free) certification, provide a separate 1,200mm accessible path

2. Shampoo Station Ratio — 1 per 3 Chairs

At least 1 shampoo station is required for every 3 styling chairs. Position shampoo stations to avoid overlapping client and staff pathways.

• Standard shampoo bowl unit: 600mm wide × 1,800mm deep (including reclined position)
• Front aisle clearance minimum 1,000mm (includes knee room while working)
• Water supply and drain connection points must be shown on the plan

3. Sterilizer and Sanitation Equipment

The Public Health Management Act mandates installation of a sterilizer (UV or heat).

• Sterilizer can be placed inside a cabinet or on a workbench
• Note sterilizer dimensions on the plan to confirm storage clearance
• Sink: can be shared with nearby restroom if distance requirements are met

4. Waiting Area Separation

• Visually separate the treatment area from the waiting area (partition or furniture layout)
• Under 33 sqm: 2–3 waiting seats; can double as reception counter
• Over 50 sqm: dedicated waiting sofa + drink service zone recommended
